Hi all

I have had ongoing lower back pain since I had Bernice. TBH it is probably the thing that stops me walking.

The Xrays of lower back- hip are good.
Swelling yes but damage no.

BUT the lower part of my spine has been pushed to one side.

Also, my posture is wonky due to the other joint pains etc.

I wondered about seeing a massage therapist about it

Will they hurt me? Which sort of therapist would be a good one to seek?

What do you think?

Jenni xx

I'm sure massage could help Jenni, however, I would make sure you find a masseuse who is also a qualified physio. I've had quite a few massages from my physios - wouldn't really trust anyone who wasn't, especially with all your other problems.

Sounds like a biomechanical problem Jenni, has a physio assessed you recently? I'm having lumbar problems, but they can't sort it until I've had my other hip replaced. Part of mine is caused by leg length discrepancy following one THR and a seized up hip. They've also suggested sending me to a podiatrist to sort out my stiff ankle and foot?

Massage sounds nice, but would you be parting with money to treat symptoms rather than cause??

Jenni, I agree with the others you need to make sure you have a highly qualified therapist. You could make it worse rather than better. Also don't forget to avoid massage if your lymphnodes are swollen. Hope you are able to find a therapist to help.

Most definitely someone who works with people with rheumatoid. A phsyio perhaps or http://www.massagetherap...ual-lymph-drainage.aspx I have a friend who is trained in this specialist lymph massage. It is very gentle and good for immune illnesses..

I would imagine massage could really help, I had my hip massaged (but only by the lovely Mark! LOL) and that helped.....

Much love,

Amanda

Jenni id think that an osteopath would be ore benfical as biomechanics also referral to phsyiotherapy would be of good use for u.
i suffer daily with lower back pain swelling but no joint damage,i have had osteopathic treatment it did help alot posture also comes into it alot.
they wouldnt do anything to hurt once informed of health issues would mean finding one specialsing in Ra,etc.
i have a weakness in that area due to 2 bad injuries from past.sorry see your bone structue is out alignment.
phsyio and osteopath would be useful.

any large areas of inflammation massage would be a contraindication. gentle scalp massage would be very relaxing, can actaully relax whole body from that alone.
